Your logic is also very flawed. You state that universal health care can't work because there are more people "taking than paying". I am not sure you really understand the way taxes or health care funding works. Are you also claiming that all other services that old people use more than young people are going to collapse? Pension systems, etc? Certainly not.

The USA currently outspend every other country in the world on a per capita basis on health care expenses. By far.

And you are trying to tell me that Canada and England are going to get rid of their systems to save money. No way.

I am a proud (and sad American after last night...) but I have no problem admitting our health care systems is in need of major reform.

This is in no way an attack on Canada or any other country. I'm just appalled that people who seem to let their egos get in the way seem to overlook the REAL meaning of the Olympics.

As a Canadian, who works full time dealing with a major American insurance company, I'd take my wait to see a specialist any day over the circus American's call health care, because you're getting gouged on all ends. The insurance companies have all these foolish, and arbitrary, "pre-existing conditions," and they're going to make you jump through hoops obtaining "authorizations" for medical services like surgeries, physical/occupational/chiropractic therapies, and depending on your plan they're going to tell you who you can see. What they don't tell you is that they're cashing in on the ignorance of most of their members, who don't realize they need to authorize services, etc.

Your hospitals and doctors on the other hand have very little in place telling them what they can and can't charge. Depending on whether or not you have insurance, you'll see two drastically different prices. Your insurance company pays more, which in turn increases the premiums, and really, in the long run, you don't save very much money.

Thanks, but if having a health care system that tells doctors "No, you can't charge whatever you feel like for services," and is founded on the principle that all people are equal and therefore deserve the same care (rather than the affluent receiving better care because they can afford it) is socialism, gods damn it... I'll keep it, even if it means a longer wait for non-urgent services! You know your system is broken when your doctors talk to the Canadians that we have a better system, and I have had that very same conversation more than once.

It's funny how the idea that America is the city on a hill is still so rampant. It's a country, not a golden, utopic civilization that all others should aspire to. Definitely not with these kinds of people in it.

I don't like a lot of what America does abroad. I like peace. I don't like war. At home in the states however, I really love my country. Some might not understand it, but a lot of our "we're so great" stuff is satirical. Very few of us are so completely wrapped up in being American that we are obnoxious about it. We're a young country with a rebel mindset.

Canada is a cool place too. I have been there twice- unfortunately not for very long. I enjoyed both my visits though.

So, I really don't have much to say for the conflict. Don't really like it. Makes me feel bad that people will not like me based purely on that, and that they would make a huge generalization about us like that. But I suppose the proverbial shoe sort of fits. Just understand being full of ourselves is kind of a joke. Were not all like that.

The best part about America is that it is NOT Canada and that it is most certainly NOT Europe. You might think that that is an arrogant thing to say, but our founding fathers didn't think so and neither do I. It's the reason tons of Europeans left Europe for America...because it wasn't Europe! Europe kept some of it's socialism because it felt it was necessary...congratulations, the exact same reason why our ancestors left Europe in the first place. They didn't leave because there was nothing else to do that day and hey, wouldn't it be fun to build a nation? No, it was because of too much government and DON'T forget it... let's face it, "social"ism health care doesn't work. Why would you say that, Ariana? Maybe it's because everyone with any money enough to spend in ANY place with socialized health care, comes to America to get it if they have any real problems like...heart disease. Some Canadian politician or athlete came to America to go to our top hospital specializing in heart surgery... if Canada's health care is so incredible, there would be no reason for that. Fact is that the top 5 U.S. hospitals have more technological advances in medicine than Canada and the U.K. combined.

As an American, I do know for a fact that we take everything for granted. When we walk by on the sidewalk, nobody has the courage to say hi and chat. When someone is in need, people worry to much about themselves and their every last penny, rather than trying to help others. If people were more independent and stopped purchasing all the latest gadgets, I think that we would be much better off. All the American society seems to be today is fashion, bragging, and spoiled kids with poor education. I know this from constant traveling and my own learning experience outside of school.

I do not know much about Canada but, I do know people from Canada. I have heard lovely things about places there. I have heard that in some regions, their culture is as different as the next continent. I absolutely love culture and land diversity. I think that it is what is needed for people to understand one another.

Apart from either side of this argument, I shall conclude with this. How this argument will continue, I really don't know but, I should like to see an end to it. There is absolutely no reason for anyone to be saying either country is better. First of all, it is all a matter of opinion. Secondly, this opinion will be based off of what we were instilled as a child. Everyone's view of a perfect world is different for the simple reason that everyone has been taught a different view on perfection itself. Honestly, I think this argument of gold medals and healthcare is quite absurd.

Please, I think both sides need to read and learn about one another and perhaps visit the other. Put all biased opinions aside and see each others land for what it is. Not from a biased opinion on ones own surroundings.
